Roadmap Biofuels and Sustainability Regulation PDF Print E-mail
December 6, 2007

Biofuels can lead to significant C02 reductions when used correctly. The new Roadmap Biofuels which Horst Seehofer German Minister for Agriculture and Sigmar Gabriel, German Minister for the Environment have both agreed on.

Both ministers have – together with the automobile industry, the oil industry, agriculture and the biofuel industry – prepared a common strategy to increase the share of biofuels: Bio ethanol should account for 10 % Vol (up until now 5 %) of petrol, the bio diesel proportion should be increased from 5 % to 7 % Vol.

The concerns about an intensified use of the agricultural grounds and the lack of efficiency with the use of biomass in the mobility sector (energy-server 02.08.07) is apparently not viewed as a hindrance – Biofuels represent for the foreseeable future the only alternative to mineral oil-based fuels.

Both ministries are also currently working on a sustainability regulation, which will simultaneously support both the production and use of biofuels through certification.
