UP Biodiesel Pump

May 17th, 2007 - North Vancouver, BC – The grand opening of United Petroleum Products Inc. (UPPI) multiblend in-line injected pump with Cascadia Biofuels Inc. (Cascadia) biodiesel took place on Squamish Nation land.

In preparation for the multi-blend in-line injected pump, UPPI installed a biodiesel tank on March 21, 2007 and removed UPPI’s conventional fuel pump to install: B5, B20 and B50 biodiesel.

Biodiesel has become a more familiar solution to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions amongst owners and operators of diesel vehicles and equipment. Biodiesel, a fuel composed of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats, and meeting the requirements of ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials) D 6751. A B5 grade of biodiesel would be 5% organic and 95% petroleum diesel while a B20 grade would be 20% organic and 80% petroleum diesel.

Commercial customers with Cummins, Caterpillar, & Detroit diesel engines, as well as passenger car diesels, including Audi, Volvo, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes and Nissan vehicles, can apply for United Petroleum cardlock cards to purchase biodiesel located at: 16 Bewicke Avenue, North Vancouver.

“The more innovations we have to provide biodiesel to customers the better for everyone,” said Mac Christie, UPPI president and director of Cascadia, with Bob Good of Autogas Propane Ltd. (APL). Christie and Good have 30 to 40 years of experience in the fuel retail and distribution business and partnered to create Cascadia in 2005. “We are happy to see a new station on the North Shore, making it that much easier for drivers to choose alternative fuels.” said Dr. Charles Jago, Chair of the Fraser Basin Council, which has helped vehicle fleets in BC pilot biodiesel. “This station is part of a growing network of green fuel stations that drivers can now find online at biofleet.net.” Cascadia provides government approved biodiesel at other pump locations throughout British Columbia: North Delta, South Burnaby, North Burnaby, Whistler, Penticton, Cawston and now North Vancouver. The Squamish Nation will be starting construction, in the near future, on their new Squamish Valley Gas location on Highway 99 in Squamish. This site will include a green island with biodiesel. Discussions are in progress to open more pumps as customer demand increases.
