 March 25, 2008 – Winnipeg, Manitoba – A major report (pdf) was released today which documents and compares the use of B5 biodiesel blend vs. straight diesel in a long haul highway tractor demonstration. Border Chemical, a Winnipeg based company, operated two identical long haul Western Star tractors for over 140,000 kilometres from October 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007. With operating temperatures often dipping below – 30 C the tractor using the B5 blend performed as well as the other unit with no loss in power, similar fuel consumption levels, and no changes in filters or engine wear. |
